Mattermost Introduces Sovereign Agentic Solutions in Air-Gapped and Classified Environments

October 27, 2026

Mattermost brings specialised agents powered by trusted open-weight and on-premises models, fielded by forward-deployed engineers, with Zero Trust, quantum-safe security, and interoperability capabilities.

Helsinki, October 27, 2026 — Mattermost, the leading human-machine teaming platform for national security and critical infrastructure, today introduced Sovereign Agentic Solutions: specialised agents that work alongside people, powered by trusted open-weight and on-premises models, fielded by forward-deployed engineers for air-gapped and classified environments. Operators can now bring mission-ready agents to the command-and-control systems they already run and use them to fuse intelligence, defend networks, and coordinate with allies at machine speed, with every action under human authority and no data leaving their control. Quantum-safe authentication and interoperability extend that control to coalition operations across security boundaries while maintaining data-centric security.

“Operators in air-gapped and classified environments want AI in mission systems they already run, and they cannot send a single byte of data outside their boundary to get it,” said Jason Blais, VP Product and NATO Alliances at Mattermost, based in Helsinki, Finland. “Sovereign Agentic Solutions gives them AI at the speed of the mission without giving up control: models that run in their own environment, security that follows the data, and agents that operate with full audit trail.”

Trusted open-weight and on-premises models for specialised agents

Mattermost runs agents on models the customer controls, from the data centre to the edge and down to a laptop, all under the same access policies and audit trail as the rest of the platform. Each agent can be assigned the model best suited to its task. For example, an intelligence agent can fuse multi-source reporting into a draft assessment for analysts to review and approve, while a cyber agent enriches security alerts on a different model. Customers can also run Mattermost agents on advanced Cohere models through Cohere North, deployed on premises or fully air-gapped.

“Sovereign AI is critical inside the environments where the most sensitive work happens,” said Michael McMillan, VP Global Partner Ecosystem, Cohere. “Mattermost is enabling secure, agent-driven workflows, while Cohere North gives enterprise teams powerful AI capabilities that stay within their own infrastructure and under human authority.”

Forward-deployed engineers turn capability into mission results

The engineers work alongside operators to deploy and integrate these solutions for new and existing customers. The team draws on domestic nationals in each Five Eyes and NATO country it serves, working within each nation’s own security requirements to bring that expertise directly to where missions and critical operations run.

Zero Trust quantum-safe security and interoperability

Data-centric security, with quantum-safe protection from regionally proven ecosystem alliances such as Arqit, lets operators share data faster without losing control of it. The policy travels with the data, every request is checked at the moment it happens against identity and live session conditions, and the architecture supports CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, NATO ACP 240, and the EU NIS2 Directive, meeting the specific demands of critical infrastructure and national security environments.

“Trust in a protected channel starts with trust in the device,” said Paul Feenan, General Manager for Defence & Government at Arqit. “Together with Mattermost, we are giving allied operators quantum-safe solutions that work inside their own infrastructure, so sensitive communications stay secure today and against the threats still coming.”

Application interoperability supplements the existing application-level and Microsoft investments governments and enterprises have made by embedding in Teams through the Microsoft Marketplace, with GCC High support. It also runs alongside Microsoft 365 Local including in air-gapped operations, and interoperates with Matrix and XMPP, adding agents that work with people in the same workflows.

Infrastructure interoperability puts the choice of where Mattermost runs in the customer’s hands. It deploys as a Kubernetes-orchestrated, high-availability service on open infrastructure, in a domestic sovereign cloud, on Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Google Distributed Cloud, or AWS, or on any Kubernetes cluster, with models on the customer’s own GPUs.

Cross-domain sharing lets allies share one trusted picture across national and classification boundaries, with each partner seeing only what it is cleared for. Cross Guard, developed with allied nations, works over transports including Azure Data Transfer (DoD IL6) and NATS, and with the accredited cross-domain solutions customers operate, including those from infodas.

Availability

Mattermost v12 is available now. Connect with forward-deployed engineers to upgrade to the latest version, and to bring agents to your mission systems. Mattermost will also demonstrate these capabilities at NATO Edge 26 in Izmir, Türkiye, in November, with our ecosystem.
