Mattermost Professional Certification Is Here

Back in January, we launched the Mattermost Certification Program with the Associate Technical Certification — a foundation for getting up and running with the platform. The response was stronger than we expected. Certified engineers started showing up on LinkedIn, badges and all, and the signal was clear: people were proud to have it. And they were ready for more.

Today, we’re delivering exactly that.

The Mattermost Professional Certification is now open for enrollment. It’s built for the engineers who don’t just use Mattermost — they own it. The ones accountable for uptime in a classified environment, for an air-gapped deployment at a forward operating base, for HA architecture that can’t tolerate a surprise. If that’s you, this is your next step.

Introducing the Mattermost Professional Certification

The Professional certification is the second tier of our three-level program. Where Associate establishes a shared operational foundation across roles, Professional goes hands-on — it’s designed for the engineers and administrators responsible for deploying and operating Mattermost in real production environments.

What you’ll learn

The Professional certification covers:

  • Linux deployment, upgrade procedures, and server configuration — installing and maintaining Mattermost on self-hosted infrastructure
  • High-availability clustering, database scaling, and Elasticsearch — architecture for uptime and search performance at scale
  • Performance monitoring and log aggregation — observability using Prometheus, Grafana, and Loki
  • Identity management, single sign-on, and information controls — AD/LDAP, SAML, OIDC, and access controls for classified environments
  • Security and compliance — data retention, compliance export, and encryption
  • Advanced workflows — webhooks, Playbooks, no-code automation, and AI agents

Who is the Professional certification for?

The Professional certification is built for the engineers and administrators who own Mattermost in production:

  • SI and implementation partners — engineers delivering Mattermost deployments for defense, federal, and enterprise customers
  • Customer administrators — the people running Mattermost in production, often without a safety net

If you passed the Associate certification and want to go deeper — or if you’re an experienced Mattermost engineer looking to validate what you already know — this is your next step.

How long does it take?

The Professional certification is designed to be completed in a focused single-day session. Labs are hands-on and delivered directly in the learning environment. Expect a more demanding experience than Associate: this one tests what you can do, not just what you know.

Earn a shareable digital credential

After passing, you’ll receive a digital certificate you can share on LinkedIn. For engineers, it’s a tangible signal of deployment-level expertise. For teams and organizations, it means the people running your Mattermost environments have been tested under realistic conditions — not just trained.

How to get started

  • Visit the certification portal at certifications.mattermost.com
  • Look for the Professional Certification track. If you’ve already completed Associate, your progress is saved and you can start directly.
  • Complete the learning modules at your own pace. Labs are hands-on — give yourself focused time.
  • Take the exam when you’re ready.

What’s next

The Professional certification is the second step in a three-tier program. The Expert tier — focused on architecting and governing Mattermost at scale — is planned for later this year, with four specialized tracks:

  1. Federal/Compliance
  2. Advanced Integration Development
  3. Enterprise Architecture
  4. Managed Services

Professional certification is the prerequisite for all Expert tracks. If you’re thinking ahead, now is the time to get certified.
