A humble and sincere ‘thank you’ to our open source community

Since our inception, open source contributions have been integral to our business and success. This October, as we participated in the great Hacktoberfest event, organized by Digital Ocean and hosted by GitHub and this month as we host our own hackathon event, we reflect upon and appreciate our community.  

We are so grateful for contributors who have added core features and improved existing ones throughout the history of our project. The growth of Mattermost has a direct correlation to the growth we’ve experienced in our community. Not only have we had the opportunity to work with some very talented developers, we have also been fortunate to have had support in other areas of our product offering. For example, our community of translators has contributed over half a million translations in our 16 supported languages and 28 in-progress languages. And numerous community members help on a monthly basis in peer-to-peer support, adding to our docs, and providing bug, security, and feature feedback.

Here is a quick recap highlighting some of the amazing growth of our developer community and the Mattermost core product repositories we’ve seen over time: 

2015:  77 contributors and 278 contributions, including:

2016:  169 contributors and 438 contributions, including:

• Away Status, Desktop App, Nickname Autocompletion, Native Android App

2017:  179 contributors and 330 contributions, including:

2018:  205 contributors and 382 contributions, including:

• Search Date Filtering, Default Channels, Mute Channels, Bulk Export Objects

So far in 2019: 532 contributors and 1,096 contributions, including:

• UI Testing Automation, Structured Logging Refactor, Mattermost Kubernetes Operator, Matterpoll plugin, File List Plugin, and Many, Many Other New Plugins and Integrations
