Mattermost Release v5.26 is now available

New feature release offers enhancements to member and channel management, logs, channel sidebar, help, and the mobile app.

Mattermost Release v5.26 is generally available today. The new feature release offers enhancements to member and channel management, logs, channel sidebar, help, and the mobile app.

The release includes the following new features:

Enterprise Edition

All Editions

Archive and unarchive channels from System Console (E20 Edition)

You can now archive and unarchive channels with ease from the System Console in the user management section on the Channels page. When a channel is archived, it is unavailable for use by members but is retained for archival and auditing purposes. Now, you can easily archive and restore channels from an archived state with a single click.

Manage members and channels in the System Console using filters (E20 Edition)

You can efficiently manage your members and channels from the System Console using search filters. On both the team members page and the channel members page, you can filter members by roles:

  • Guest
  • Member
  • Team Admin/Channel Admin
  • System Admin

On the Channel page in the System Console, you can apply one or more of the following filters:

  • Public channels
  • Private channels
  • Archived channels
  • Channels that are synchronized to an AD/LDAP Group
  • Channels with users who were invited manually (i.e., not synced from LDAP)

Once you apply your filters, you can drill further into your channel lists by applying an additional search query to the filtered lists.

Customize log configuration and output targets (E20 Edition)

You can now customize log level records beyond the standard levels of trace, debug, info, and panic, as well as configure different destinations based on discrete log levels.

For example, if you are working on websockets, you can create log entries for all aspects of the websocket lifecycle using one or more discrete log levels. You can then configure a log target that only includes those websocket log levels to get a clean view of websocket activity that can be easily turned on and off.

The logging package is now also capable of outputting to multiple instances of each target. For example, you may specify that all log records at log level “error” output to a specific file while “info,” “debug,” and “trace” end up in a different file. Three targets have been chosen to support the vast majority of log aggregators and other log analysis tools without having to install additional software.

  • File target supports rotation and compression triggered by size and/or duration
  • Syslog target supports local and remote syslog servers, with or without TLS transport
  • TCP socket target can be configured with an IP address or domain name, port, and optional TLS encryption

Mention and notify members of an AD/LDAP group from the mobile app (E20 Edition BETA)

You can now @Mention an AD/LDAP Group from the mobile app (v1.34) if the AD/LDAP Groups feature is enabled.

The mobile app supports auto-suggesting groups, highlights group member mentions, and provides a warning dialog when a mention will notify more than five users.

We’ve packed more functionality into the experimental feature set for managing channels in your sidebar. Join us in testing these features by enabling the config setting: Experimental Sidebar Features

Users now have the ability to:

  • Create custom categories in the sidebar to group channels together for easier navigation (e.g., “Design” or “Marketing”).
  • Collapse categories to reduce unnecessary scrolling.
  • Drag channels between or within categories to prioritize important conversations.
  • Sort Direct Messages by recent activity or alphabetically.
  • Catch up on unread channels with a one-click unread filter.

Complete slash commands on mobile with dynamic auto-complete suggestions

Mattermost mobile v1.34 now provides you dynamic auto-complete suggestions when you begin typing a slash command.

Slash commands provide quick access to common functions but their options can be difficult to remember. Slash commands auto-complete now works on the mobile Mattermost app to make it easier for users to add optional parameters or simply start a meeting. While you’re on the run, try it by setting your status to “away” by typing /a…then choose “Away” from the menu. Other handy slash commands include /zoom start and /jitsi.
