Mattermost v11.5: Automatic channel translation, sovereign LLM web search, channel context summarization & more
Mattermost v11.5 brings major advances for organizations that can’t afford to compromise on security or control.
AI-powered automatic channel translation breaks down language barriers for multinational teams. Sovereign LLM web search keeps your AI agents fully capable while ensuring data never leaves your environment. And channel context summarization enables team members to get up to speed quickly without reading every message.
The end result? Smarter collaboration, tighter security, and complete data ownership.

Automatic Channel Translation
Mattermost Enterprise Advanced
In coalition operations and multinational incident response, language barriers slow everything down — delaying decisions and increasing the chances of miscommunication during critical times. Manual translation workflows are slow, error-prone, and introduce security exposure when operators copy sensitive content into external tools.
From Mattermost v11.5, Enterprise Advanced customers can use AI-powered automatic channel translation to keep everyone aligned in real time, regardless of language. Whether a NATO-aligned defense team is coordinating a joint operation or a multinational fintech company is running a 24/7 incident response channel across time regions, this new feature saves time while keeping global multi-national teams aligned.
Messages are automatically translated into each user’s default language — allowing teams to stay focused on the mission without relying on manual translation workflows that create security risks.
Currently available in beta, administrators can select their preferred translation provider, define which languages are available, and restrict auto-translation for direct and group messages.
The result is fast decisions, clear communication, and strong coordination — all within the secure, self-hosted environment you control, with zero data leakage to external translation services.

Sovereign Agentic Web Search
Mattermost Entry, Mattermost Enterprise & Mattermost Enterprise Advanced
Organizations that self-host LLMs or use alternative model providers gain data sovereignty but lose access to web-grounded reasoning. Their AI agents can’t search the internet for context, which limits accuracy and usefulness, especially for time-sensitive operational questions.
Mattermost now expands sovereign AI capabilities with new web search functionality that provides richer context and enables users to easily verify the accuracy of agent responses.
Mattermost v11.5 introduces a new web search tool designed for customers who self-host their LLMs, use alternative model providers, or require greater control over search infrastructure.
This tool enables web search via Brave Search and Google Custom Search, with robust controls, including configurable result limits, custom API endpoints, and domain denylists to block specific websites.
Organizations can extend AI capabilities without sacrificing data sovereignty, compliance, or operational control.

Channel Context Summarization
Mattermost Entry, Mattermost Enterprise & Mattermost Enterprise Advanced
During high-stakes operations, teams work in fast-moving channels filled with hundreds of messages. Mattermost v11.5 introduces Channel Context Summarization, which enables teams to generate AI-powered summaries that help leaders and responders understand the situation, key decisions, and next steps without reading every message.
Users can now click the Ask Agents button at the top of a channel to generate summaries of unread messages or across specific date ranges. Summaries are generated using your preferred Agent (e.g., OpenAI, Mistral, or Bedrock) and include citations with links to relevant messages. After summaries are created, users can ask follow-up questions to dig deeper into discussions or surface action items — transforming long message threads into actionable insights in seconds.

Easy Login for Desktop
Mattermost Entry, Mattermost Enterprise & Mattermost Enterprise Advanced
When a crisis hits, getting the right people into a collaboration space quickly matters. Emergency responders, cross-agency teams, and broad coalitions can’t afford friction from account creation, username/password setup, or IT onboarding.
In Mattermost v11.3, we introduced Easy Login for mobile. With Mattermost v11.5, we’ve extended this capability to the desktop.
Users can invite guests to specific channels via email with magic links, granting them secure, one-click access to Mattermost on mobile, web, or desktop — without creating usernames or passwords.
This feature removes friction and is especially valuable for emergency responders, cross-agency teams, and broad coalitions, where people from different departments or organizations need to come together quickly to resolve crises.
With this feature, Mattermost makes it easy to securely bring the right people together when every second matters.
Hardened Security & Improved Audit Logging
Mattermost v11.5 further strengthens platform security and administrative visibility with expanded audit logging and integration safeguards.
New updates include:
- Enhanced Desktop App audit logging for external authentication events
- New audit logs when system admins access posts in channels they’re not members of
- Improved webhook validation and size limits to better protect servers and maintain data integrity for those using the Zoom plugin
Together, these enhancements improve compliance posture, increase transparency for security teams, and help administrators detect and investigate sensitive access patterns more effectively.
Enhanced Integrations & Platform Stability
Mattermost v11.5 also delivers important improvements across key integrations to enhance reliability, scalability, and the user experience across the ecosystem:
- GitLab: Multi-instance support lets you connect and manage multiple GitLab instances within a single Mattermost workspace, with improved user discovery and a new
/gitlab instancedefault slash command. - GitHub: Improved tooltip UI for Enterprise installations, fixed disconnect behavior, and reduced log noise for users without connected accounts.
- Zoom: Resolved a potential crash in settings and strengthened webhook security with improved validation and request size controls.
- Microsoft Teams: Fixed a client handling issue that could cause intermittent connection failures for MS Teams meetings.
Together, these updates enhance performance, improve administrative visibility, and strengthen integration reliability across the Mattermost ecosystem.
