We’re excited to introduce the Mattermost Certification Program—a new way for our customers, partners, and community to validate Mattermost knowledge with a credential that’s clear, credible, and easy to share.
As Mattermost continues to support mission-critical work in complex environments, we’ve heard a consistent need from teams adopting the platform:
- “How do we align product capabilities with our use cases?”
- “How do we build shared understanding across technical and non-technical roles?”
- “How can we recognize and prove Mattermost expertise?”
Our certification program is designed to answer those questions with a structured learning path and an official credentialing framework, starting with our first certification.
Introducing: Mattermost Associate Technical Certification
The Mattermost Associate Technical Certification is our foundational credential. It’s built to be approachable, practical, and valuable across roles—whether you’re hands-on with configuration and workflows or you collaborate closely with teams using Mattermost every day.
What you’ll learn in this program
This Associate certification covers:
- Core platform fundamentals and capabilities
- How the platform supports key use cases across defense, intelligence, security and critical infrastructure organizations
- Foundational deployment, administration and security concepts that apply across roles
Think of it as the “common language” certification: a shared baseline that makes it easier to collaborate, implement, support, and advocate for Mattermost in real-world environments.
Who is the Associate Technical Certification for?
The Associate level is intentionally designed to be accessible to a broad audience—including learners who aren’t in technical roles.
If you work in engineering, customer support, operations, marketing, sales, enablement, or partner delivery, the Associate certification helps you build confidence in how Mattermost works and where it fits within your organization.
How long does the Associate Technical Certification take to complete?
The full experience (course + exam) takes about approximately 2 hours, making it easy to complete in a focused session or split across a couple of shorter blocks of time.

After passing the exam, you’ll receive a digital certificate you can share on LinkedIn.
For individuals, it’s a tangible achievement and an easy way to showcase your platform knowledge.

What’s next for Mattermost
The Associate certification is the first step in a larger certification roadmap. We plan to expand the program with additional levels this year, including:
- Professional Certification: Get hands-on deploying and administering Mattermost in secure, zero trust environments.
- Expert Certifications: Architect and govern Mattermost at scale, implementing highly available, resilient, and extensible deployments.
These will go progressively deeper, but the Associate certification is the perfect place to start, whether you’re learning Mattermost for the first time or formalizing knowledge you already have.
