Introducing Mattermost Enterprise Advanced: The Future of Multi-Domain Secure Operations

Mattermost is proud to announce the launch of Mattermost Enterprise Advanced, our latest product designed to enhance secure collaboration for multi-domain operations.

What is Enterprise Advanced?

Enterprise Advanced is our latest product — joining the line of Mattermost Professional and Mattermost Enterprise and greatly expanding the capabilities of our Intelligent Mission Environment for multi-domain secure operations. This product offers a comprehensive messaging collaboration platform across web, desktop, and mobile, including Agentic AI, workflow automations, critical infrastructure hardening, compliance, and administration tools. It integrates seamlessly into both modern and legacy toolchains, providing advanced customization, security controls, and quantum-secure communications aligned with DoD Zero Trust and other security standards.

Key Features of Enterprise Advanced

Enterprise Advanced addresses the hard problems in managing Multi-Domain Secure Operations at scale, such as:

• Controlling access to classified data in multi-user collaboration environments
• Handling data spillage events quickly and efficiently
• Locking access to channels and files on a need-to-know program clearance basis
• Securely connecting authorized users across different organizations, countries, and languages

Built for Mission Operations and Cyber Defense Requirements

There are a lot of exciting new capabilities in the new product that support important use cases in mission operations and cyber defense scenarios:

Controlling Access to Classified Data

Enterprise Advanced includes sophisticated policy-based Zero Trust access controls for channels and files, helping customers comply with Zero Trust mandates and achieve dynamic, highly granular access controls for resources in Mattermost based on user properties, device and network environmental data, and special User Authoritative Source databases that contain clearance information.

To make Zero Trust scalable, we’ve designed both central and decentralized policy management. Large organizations can apply general rulesets from a central location and allow more local control by channel and team administrators. Admins can use simple drop-down policy editors or sophisticated expression language to define their control policies.

Handling Data Spillage Events

The product includes data spillage handling features that help organizations maintain strong operational security. For example, if a classified document is improperly posted in an unclassified channel, any user can flag that post. It will be immediately removed and sent to the designated security review team, capturing all details of the potential incident.

Post-Quantum Security and End-to-End Encryption

Enterprise Advanced will be adding support for post-quantum security, enabling customers to adopt the new National Institute of Standards (NIST) post-quantum-secure cryptographic algorithms to secure their data in Mattermost. This essentially future-proofs their data. We will also be introducing uncompromising end-to-end encryption that will enable entirely private group messages as well as encrypted channels. End-to-end encrypted messages are readable only by the channel participants – not even system administrators can access those messages.

Security Optimization for Mobile

Enterprise Advanced delivers strong mobile security controls to protect sensitive and CUI materials on mobile devices, including BYOD. Administrators can enforce a broad set of controls over mobile devices attempting to connect to Enterprise Advanced services, including enforcing OS-level data-at-rest encryption, denying access jailbroken or rooted devices, preventing users from taking screenshots or recording any data in Mattermost, and requiring positive hardware-based biometric authentication for every session.

Organizations can further protect sensitive and CUI materials with the secure file viewer feature, a thin-client-like capability that allows users to view PDFs, images, and video without downloading any files to the mobile device.

Mission Partner Environments

Enterprise Advanced is designed to support customized Mission Partner Environments architecture, cross-domain collaboration, and SIP/VOIP integration.

With our new Automatic Channel Translation feature, multinational organizations, teams, and missions who work with partners in multiple languages can now utilize automatic language translations. Every user will be able to read and write in their own language, even in large channel discussions.

Air-Gapped and DDIL Workflow

Mattermost is already widely deployed in secure air-gapped environments around the world. Our new Shared Channels capability lets customers deploy in a highly resilient architecture. In that setup, Mattermost servers will continue to serve local users when disconnected from wider networks and then resynchronize all channels when reconnected, so that teams can continue to work and share even in degraded conditions.

The Mattermost for Microsoft Teams App connects Teams and Mattermost systems. The important point is that Mattermost is an independent system that continues to work when Teams goes down, allowing it to be the essential reliable communication solution in challenging situations.

Ultra-High Resilience

Engineered to scale to 200,000 concurrent users, Enterprise Advanced features a robust, horizontally scalable architecture tailored for high-performance enterprise environments. It supports zero-downtime upgrades and rolling deployments, and can be deployed on-premises or in cloud environments like AWS or Azure.

Premier or Enterprise Support

Enterprise Advanced is available with Enterprise or Premier support options. Enterprise Support is available 24×7 at all times on all days via email and the Mattermost online ticketing system with a 4-hour response time service-level target. Premier support adds private support channels, direct access to senior support engineers, screen-share, and audio calling for P1 and P2 tickets.

Product Roadmap

Enterprise Advanced is set to launch in July 2025, with continuous enhancements planned throughout the year. The product roadmap includes major releases with new capabilities for Zero Trust security, classified and sensitive information control, air-gapped and DDIL workflow, and mission partner environments.
