While Team Edition* enabled many to experience the power of open collaboration, it has often resulted in oversized and unsupported deployments, with limited exposure to our most advanced features. Why We Built Entry 

Team Edition offered a useful starting point, but it wasn’t designed to scale. In practice, we’ve seen: 

• Unsupported environments that outgrew their original purpose;
• Low conversion rates to our Enterprise editions, since users didn’t experience advanced features; 
• Gaps in security and governance that enterprises rely on. 

To ensure every new deployment starts off with the right foundation, we’re evolving our product lineup. Team Edition remains open source and does not have the limitations of Entry.

• Message history capped at 10,000 messages 
• 1:1 audio calls limited to 40 minutes 
• AI-assisted queries capped at 250 per month 

These guardrails are designed to give teams time to prove the value of Mattermost, without creating long-term unsupported deployments.
