Mattermost 2nd-gen mobile apps released: more speed, more efficiency, more reliability

New 2nd-generation Mattermost mobile apps are officially released, offering greater speed, efficiency and reliability, plus compatibility plans for all major EMM solutions including BlackBerry Dynamics, MobileIron and AirWatch in the future.

Faster, more efficient, more reliable

Our new mobile apps offer dramatic improvements over our first-generation release, including:

  • Faster load times thanks to lower bandwidth requirements
  • Greater stability on weak network connections
  • High responsiveness from new native controls
  • Continuous improvement with a move to monthly releases

What’s new in this release?

In addition to performance, 2nd-generation apps introduce new highly demanded features, including:

  • Deep link to posts from push notifications
  • Unread channels section at the top of the sidebar
  • Search filter for channel switcher
  • Ability to swipe across image previews
  • Caching to view messages while momentarily disconnected

Faster load times with optimized bandwidth usage. Channels with unreads now appear at the top of channel menu, along with the ability to filter channels by name.

The 2nd-generation apps are named “Mattermost” and will be under active development. The 1st-generation apps are renamed “Mattermost Classic” and will be in maintenance mode, releasing only new bug fixes, but not new improvements.

For private deployments, you can access full open source code base for the 2nd-generation apps, written in React Native, from https://github.com/mattermost/mattermost-mobile.

Note: 2nd-generation apps were completely re-written for increased performance. There are a number of features in 1st-gen apps to be added in the coming month, including search, file preview and file download.
