This new feature release includes updates to Incident Collaboration with enhanced permission controls and automated welcome messages, the addition of Hungarian language support, and a Focalboard project management integration (beta).
Mattermost v5.36 is generally available today. This release includes the following new features (see changelog for more details):
- Incident Collaboration updates: team-wide playbook access permissions, permission controls for playbook creation, and automated welcome messages (Cloud and E20 Edition)
Incident Collaboration: team-wide playbook access permissions, permission control for playbook creation, automated welcome message (Cloud and E20 Edition)
Mattermost v5.36 includes several Incident Collaboration feature enhancements:
Team-wide playbook access permissions
While some playbooks may need to be private, it is often useful for all team members to be able to reference, review, and run certain playbooks. Users can now configure playbooks with full team access permissions (as opposed to only select individuals) in order to better scale workflows throughout the team.
Permission control for playbook creation
Users can now specify the individuals that are allowed to create playbooks so that they are better curated for the rest of the team. Those that can’t create playbooks can still be given access to run them and participate. This provides teams with more flexibility to adopt new functionalities in a way that makes sense within their organization.
Automated welcome message
The ability to quickly gather context after being invited to an incident channel mid-conversation is critical. Users can now configure playbooks to send an ephemeral welcome message every time a new participant joins the channel. This provides a rapid onboarding process for new members by providing a description of why they were brought there and links to relevant resources.
Introducing Focalboard Beta
Focalboard is now integrated with Mattermost as a beta feature in v5.36. It brings easy-to-use project and task management to replace tools such as Trello, Notion, and Asana.
As a beta feature, Focalboard is disabled by default. To enable Focalboard:
- Open the Marketplace from the sidebar menu
- Install the Focalboard plugin
- Click on Configure, enable it, and save
- Update your NGINX or Apache web proxy config following these steps
Once that’s done, you can click on the Focalboard icon in the channel header to access boards for that channel.
Here are two ways you can use Focalboard right away:
1. Organize and track your personal tasks
Use the Personal Tasks template to track the tasks that matter the most to you. Drag items to order them in importance within columns and enjoy the warm satisfaction of dragging your last card to Done each day.
2. Run effective meetings
For each person you have regular 1:1 meetings with, click on the Focalboard button in the direct message channel with them, then use the Meeting Agenda template to easily queue up topics to discuss. This also works great with team meetings. Anyone can add discussion items ahead of time, which saves valuable minutes fumbling for the agenda each week.
And much more!
This is just the tip of the iceberg of what you can do with Focalboard. Create multiple boards, and multiple views per board, choosing from kanban-boards, tables, and gallery views. Customize the card properties and filter and sort settings to suit your exact needs and workflows.
Hungarian language support
Mattermost is now available in Hungarian! Huge thank you to our community, particularly Zsolt Godó and Csaba Tóth. Köszönöm!
Mattermost is now available in 19 languages, and our community is currently working on several other translations, including Vietnamese, Czech, Finnish, and more.
A few reminders
Collapsed reply threads modify how messages and threads are stored in the database. Upgrading now will ensure your threads are being handled correctly on the backend for a seamless transition when collapsed reply threads become available.
Thank you to our contributors
Thanks for all community contributions this month and, in particular, our v5.36 Most Valued Professional (MVP), Ben Bodenmiller, who has worked on improving configuration directions for the Jira plugin, with 45 lifetime contributions. Thank you for your continued contributions, Ben Bodenmiller!
